Quarterfinals
Frankford 39, Bartram 0
The Pioneers tied a school record with their seventh shutout (also 1933,
'41) in just eight games while limiting the Braves to 43 yards total offense.
Andre Mungin had an interception. Arnold Mullins turned half of his six
carries into TDs, along with 88 yards. Lamont Brown passed 4-for-7 for
120 yards and two scores to Michael Washington (2-110).
Central 15, King 8
Marcel Quarterman rushed 13 times for 72 yards, made two interceptions
and passed 5-for-13 for 89 yards and one TD apiece to Jordan Anderson
and Rodney Sykes. Sykes iced the win with a late-game pick. Quindel
"Milky" Ladson made 15 tackles and Cornelius Bunch had two tackles for
losses. Jared Williams ran for King's TD while Sammy Tranks ran nine
times for 63 yards and posted an interception.
Dobbins 22, Mastbaum 21 (OT)
Reserve quarterback Steve Sydnor rallied the Mustangs from a 14-6 deficit
with TD and conversion runs in regulation. In OT, Mastbaum went first and
received a 2-yard TD run from Jadrien "J.J." Reynolds and PAT from David
Pough. Sydnor immediately hit Nate Gravely with a 10-yard scoring pass and
fullback Greg Myers (14 tackles) ran for two on an option to end it. Sydnor
was intending to pull the ball from Myers' belly. Myers wouldn't let that happen.
Washington 21, Bok 6
Jerry Butler ran 13 times for 132 yards and two TDs as the Eagles finally
dented Bok's defense, which had recorded a school-record four consecutive
shutouts. Zimier McCloud had nine solos among 12 tackles (two for losses)
while Ricardo Rivera and Brandon Sanders made interceptions. Bok QB Allen
Major ran 15 times for 78 yards.
Semifinals
Doubleheader at Northeast
Frankford 48, Central 24
Though the Pioneers boasted a school record seven shutouts in eight games,
they were scorched for 24 points in the first 29 minutes. They then regrouped
and won going away. The rushing was paced by Arnold Mullins (19-176, TD),
Jeremy Benson (19-90, two) and soph Brandon Norris (4-52, two), and Lamont
Brown passed 11-for-15 for 121 yards and a score to Michael Washington (5-50).
Washington made 11 solo tackles. For Central, junior Joe Marshall made his first
start at QB in place of the injured Marcel Quarterman and was nothing short of
sensational. He passed 9-for-13 for 191 yards and two TDs to Jordan Anderson
(4-120) and rushed 16 times for 66 yards (257 total offense). Quindel "Milky"
Ladson ran 50 yards for a TD and made 17 tackles.
Washington 21, Dobbins 14
After Chuck Hughes (also two interceptions) recovered a fumble with 1:22
remaining, Jerry Butler ran 23 yards for a TD at 0:37 to give the Eagles a stirring
victory. They were trailing, 14-13. Butler finished with 22 carries for 230 yards
and two scores and Rich McFillin threw a 35-yard scoring pass to Jeremiah Pitt.
For Dobbins, Ariel Simmons collected an interception and fumble recovery, tackled
Butler at the 1 late in the first half to prevent a TD, and caught a TD pass from
Maurice Whitaker. Rashad "Reds" Williams scampered 60 yards for a score.
Final
At Northeast
Frankford 12, Washington 0
The Pioneers (11-0) sent coach Tom Mullineaux into expected retirement
by giving him a second consecutive title (four total) and extending their
winning streak to 20 games. Also, they set a school record with their eighth
shutout. Jeremy Benson (16-84) and Arnold Mullins (13-67) ran for one TD
apiece while soph Brandon Norris added 80 yards on eight carries. Ervin
Hook picked up a blocked punt and ran for first-down yardage, setting up
Mullins' score. He also had an interception at the 10 to preserve the
shutout. Andre Mungin also had a pick. Isaiah "Zeke" Thompson posted
two sacks and Ray Williams recovered a fumble. For Washington, junior
Jerry Butler (15-37) lifted his season rushing total to a school record 1,247.
This game was postponed by snow, from a Saturday to the following
Wednesday night, and was played in the rain on a surface that was muddy
even beforehand.

First Round
At Plymouth-Whitemarsh
La Salle 28, Ryan 14
Max Mullineaux ran 11 times for 140 yards and a 59-yard TD (he also had a 60-yard gain)
and Mike Lynch passed
10-for-16 for 130 yards and a 49-yard score to Chris Garzone (3-67);
Brian Hogan also had a good night receiving (4-55). Hogan and Rob Forster had interceptions.
Lineman Kevin Donohoe made seven tackles. For Ryan, Tim Roken passed 13-for-29 for 184
yards, mostly to Rick Ferraiolo (8-141).
At Northeast
Roman 21, Judge 17
Judge, 1-6 in division play, came close to a monumental upset, but a 45-yard TD pass from
Dale Curry (11-for-20, 180 yards) to Carl Peterson with 42 seconds left was wiped out by an
illegal procedure penalty. Alex Garcia recovered a fumble (forced by Charron Fisher) three
plays later. Evin Jones ran 15 times for 79 yards and a TD and scored the winning TD on a
5-yard flip from Andre Sloan-El with 1:22 left. The drive covered 50 yards in 12 plays;
Jones' 37-yard kickoff return set it up.
Semifinals
At Northeast
St. Joe's Prep 41, La Salle 14
The Prep extended its winning streak to 34 games in rather easy fashion after allowing La
Salle to take a quick 7-0 lead. Dan Jones (18-251) and soph John Shaw (15-109) ran for two
TDs apiece while sharing the tailback slot, as they had all season. Each went over 1,000 for
the season. Greg Ambrogi turned his 12th interception of the season into a 50-yard TD return.
La Salle's Mike Lynch passed 8-for-25 for 176 yards and a TD to Chris Garzone. The meeting
was the teams' second of the season. A few days earlier, La Salle had announced the
cancellation of the Thanksgiving game.
At Plymouth-Whitemarsh
O'Hara 35, Roman 0
The Lions roared to 392 yards total offense as Matt Gough (9-127, two TDs) and Anthony
Heygood (15-112, TD) handled the rushing and Matt Campbell passed 3-for-8 for 87 yards
and one TD apiece to Sean Barksdale and Tom Creighton. Thirteen of Roman's 54 plays lost
yardage and Mike Kimpel had three of the nine sacks.
Final
At Plymouth-Whitemarsh
St. Joe's Prep 45, O'Hara 7
Steve Quinn recovered the opening kickoff on the O'Hara 11, Dan Jones

immediately ran for a TD and the Lions were as good as done against this
powerhouse. Soph John Shaw tied a city postseason record with four TDs
while rushing 19 times for 98 yards. Mark Noonan passed for a TD to
Quinn and ran for one of his own. The Hawks (12-0) extended their city
record winning streak to 35 games and were dubbed the best team in school
history by coach Gil Brooks. Brandon Friday, Matt Parkhurst and Charlie
Noonan, Mark's brother, had sacks as O'Hara was held to 75 yards total
offense.
Blue Division
First Round
Canceled. A teachers' strike forced postponement of two brackets until the end of the
season. CL officials decided to cut the playoffs from six teams to four.
Semifinals
At Northeast
Wood 13, Neumann 7
John McFadden's second interception set up the winning TD, scored on a controversial
17-yard run by Mike Kruzits with 23 seconds remaining. His forward progress appeared to
be stopped; there was no whistle. Soph Bryan McCartney ran 25 times for 75 yards. Dane
Mangin scored Wood's other TD on a sneak after coach Art Barrett took three points off
the scoreboard in the wake of a roughing-the-kicker penalty. For Neumann, Billy Canady
caught a 57-yard pass from Jon Brady to set up his own TD run.
At Norristown
West Catholic 32, Carroll 27
The Burrs roared back from a 20-0 deficit as Curtis "Boonah" Brinkley ran 39 times for
225 yards, raising his career total to exactly 7,200, and four TDs. In a late October game
vs. North Catholic, Brinkley had claimed the city marks for rushing yardage in a game
(399, breaking 379) and career (6,351, breaking 6,122). Will Burke passed 7-for-13 for 131
yards and a TD to soph John Maddox (6-87). For Carroll, Rich Wood ran for two early
TDs before suffering an injury. Ryan Stewart (8-111) and Mike McMahon (18-93) rushed
for one score apiece.
Final
Blue Division
At Northeast
Wood 17, West Catholic 14
The Vikings completed their first perfect season (11-0) in school history
while capturing their first title since 1978. Tom Laurich won it by kicking
a 35-yard field goal with 4:22 left. Mike Kruzits (10-52) ran 10 yards for a
TD and Dane Mangin hit James Harrigan with a 13-yard TD pass with
just 0:02 left in the first half. Mangin finished 6-for-9 for 85 yards; he
entered the game averaging 22 passing yards. Soph Bryan McCartney ran
22 times for 134, padding his school record season total to 1,417.
Shane
Rose made two tackles on star rusher Curtis "Boonah" Brinkley to thwart
West's final drive, which advanced as close as the 30. Tim Kilkenny, who
earlier posted an interception, broke up what could have been a TD pass in
the end zone. Brinkley ran for TDs of 70 and 81 yards and finished with 19
carries for 213 yards. He concluded his career with city records for carries
(1,007) and yards (7,413).
