The End of K-K/Kenrick Football . . . Return to TedSilary.com Home Page In June 2010, the archdiocese will close Kennedy-Kenrick and a new school merging K-K and St. Pius X, of Pottstown, will open in September. That new school, Pope John Paul II, of Royersford, will not compete in the Catholic League. The Wolverines played their final game on Nov. 14, falling to Phoenixville, 35-6, at Roosevelt Field, in Norristown. Below are some items concerning the program itself, including the building's days as Bishop Kenrick, and assorted lasts. |

K-K played 17 years of football, all in the Catholic
League. Its
forerunner, Bishop Kenrick, located in the same building, played 38
years of football and was in the Catholic League for 26 of those
(1963-88). It also played from 1955-62 and 1989-92. The overall
record for both schools was 229-322-8.
The school won no CL championships, but played in the final in '71
and '72. In '92, as an independent, it advanced to the first District 1
AA final and fell to Harriton. (The merger with Archbishop Kennedy,
of nearby Conshohocken, occurred for the 1993-94 school year.)
