PUBLIC LEAGUE B
Northeast 63, Fels 51
Back to back games, back-to-back wins, and back-to-back game reports; it
doesn’t get no better than this. This game began slowly with both teams
committing turnovers and missing easy shots. Then NE got the game crackin' by
going on an 8-2 run that was led by the Evans and Blassingame
combo. Evans accounted for three of the points by first converting a
lay-up off of a crazy spin move to the basket and then making a free throw,
Blassingame put up the rest with a three and a lay-up. Tyrone “Boo Boo”
Blassingame (20 points, 9 rebounds, 4 blocks) showed his true maturity in
this win calming the team down with his scoring and leadership during dry
spells; he is a top notch captain. The other team captain, Derek “D-Nice”
Lockhart (3 boards, 3 blocks, 2 assists), might not have scored but he had a
great performance on D with some Ben Wallace type blocks that made everyone go
crazy. The teams ended the quarter by trading threes -- NE got their three from
Tyron Lytes (8 points, 6 boards, 6 dimes, 3 steals, 2 blocks) while jr.
Antoin Harper banged a three for Fels to cut NE’s lead to one point.
Lytes is dangerous from beyond the arc and has the ability to blow past a
defender on any play. NE got some needed help in the second quarter from their
bench. Jr. Andre “Dre Dolla” Anderson, and Keurlin “The Glove” Charles
(he didn’t like the nickname Grandpop because it made him seem old -- ha
ha). ‘Dre finished the game with 5 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists
he could be a key player for NE if they make it to the playoffs because of his
toughness and ability to go to the rack. The Glove was once again his
usual self mixing 4 points with 4 steals, some clutch free throws,
and his trademark defense. Fels had a 24-23 lead at the end of the half due to a
good first half performance from sr. Jamar White (14 points). But
Lytes began a mirror performance of yesterday scoring 7 third quarter points
helping NE regain the lead. We then got a little any thing you can do I can do
better show when Sean “I Will Dunk from Anywhere” Evans finished a fast
break with a one handed dunk then sr. Desmond Robinson (7 points)
converted a dunk of his own. But since "we from NE" you know we're going to say
Evans' dunk was better. Kevin “Juice” Clark also contributed some
key points for NE. If coach Cohen just put him in more often he could really
help the team out with his long range shooting, he is a major threat from long
distance. Jr. Antoin Harper (13 points) kept Fels in the game with some
key trey balls; we counted about three that were from NBA range. Sean Evans
was once again a force from the wing forward spot going for a double double
(19 points, 20 boards) he also had 7 blocks. He again showed us why
he is considered one of the top juniors in the Pub with his performance in the
win.
SHOUT OUTS- NE
football player Steshaun “Shizz Mac” Johnson was in attendance and told
us to make sure we put him in the game report. What up Shizz! Mrs.
Blassingame was in attendance once again, showing the team love. We love you
Mrs. Blassingame! Shout outs to Harold “I look like Fred Sanford” Miller,
Jesse “Air Canada” Joseph, and Greg “White Chocolate” Tait our former
football teammates who are now on the basketball team. Where was Mr. Tait
today? We didn’t see him in the stands?
FUNNY OF THE GAME- Our partner Nafis Muhammad got kicked out of the
game for playing around too much. We try to keep him under control but he
doesn’t take his medicine sometimes and that’s what happens. Now that’s funny.
Our other funny was one of the assistants working the score table he was getting
his Blankman on with those taped up glasses that were missing an arm.
Come on, man, Halloween will be here soon. Now that’s really funny.

PUBLIC LEAGUE B
Northeast 75, Olney 51
Finally we got to see
Northeast play the way they are supposed to. If they play like they played today
for the rest of the season, we can see them make a complete turnaround. We can
only write a report about the second half because we were in the weight room
getting ready for the upcoming football season. When we arrived NE led Olney,
40-21, and the second half was just getting ready to start. Soph guard Tyron
“I Shoot the Lights Out” Lytes (17 points, 6 steals, 2 assists, 1 block)
began the third quarter with a pair of free throws, a reverse lay up, and a
three causing Olney’s coach to call a quick timeout. After the timeout Olney
showed a little life by going on a 7-0 run that was ended by NE’s hot man of the
quarter 'Ron Lytes. Olney jr. guard Micah Fisher (8 points) kept
NE from beginning another scoring spree. At the end of the third quarter
Lamar Coney (18 points) hit a falling buzzer-beater in the face of Sean
Evans. Evans, being the good sport he is, helped Coney up and told
him nice shot. Sr. Tyrone “Boo Boo” Blassingame (14 points, 11 rebounds, 1
block) and jr. Sean “Move Out the Way or I will Dunk on You" Evans (19
points, 18 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals, 3 blocks) were too much for Olney
in the paint and they gained most of their points off of missed shots. With the
fourth quarter coming to an end Evans gave Olney fans a reason to go home
and Northeast fans a reason to cheer when he threw down this nasty
one hand dunk on two Olney defenders. I think he got happy when he saw us
because on the next possession after the dunk he crossed over James Morris
and went to the basket for what looked like another dunk in the making but
Morris fouled Evans and sent him to the line. NE also got a spark in
the fourth quarter from Keurlin “Grandpop” Charles (8 points, 10 rebounds, 2
blocks). He was his usual self by causing whoever he stuck problems with his
tough defense.
SHOUT OUTS- Former NE football and basketball player
Rockeed McCarter was in attendance cheering on his former teammates. We
guess when you are as good as Roman is you don’t have to practice. “Mother of
the Team” (Blassingame's mom) was in attendance and you could tell because
every time Tyrone went to the line you could hear her telling him to take his
time. There should be more moms like that in the Pub.
FUNNY OF THE GAME- Olney’s Maleke McCurry was playing
in his warm-up. Wherever he left his jersey, we bet he won’t leave it there
anymore because he won't again want to be the funny of the game.
