FEB. 22
PUBLIC LEAGUE FIRST-ROUND PLAYOFF
Southern 70, Northeast 54

This game looked like it was going to take a buzzer-beater for either team to win. The first quarter didn’t produce many points but Nick “All I Do Is Block Shots” McIntosh was a reason for Southern’s low point score as he was sending shots flying. NE was up by one to end the first quarter and they started the second quarter off with a 4-0 run. Southern quickly called a timeout and after the timeout they responded with a 9-0 run of their own that was finally ended by back-to-back buckets by Sean "Shiz" Evans. NE ended the half with a trey ball from Jordan “P.C. For Three” Green (12 pts, 2 steals) and a deuce from Steve “The Rockstar” Pinckney to take a cool five-point lead. The third quarter started with exchanging buckets from the two headliners of the game Shiz Evans (26 pts) and Ramone Moore (24 pts, 5 boards, 3 assists). We don’t usually give ink to players from the other team but Robert "Elevator Man" McKee (17 pts, 9 boards) caught this nasty put-back and then threw down this crazy dunk off a fast break. But our boy Shiz never disappoints the crowd and he responded with a dunk on one of Southern’s players. This was a bad way for the boys to end the season but at least they can say they made the playoffs, something NE basketball team had not done in a couple of years.

Funny Of The Game

There wasn’t anything funny about this game because we lost. So instead we are going to send a few shoutouts. Shoutout to Kennard “Obadiah, I am African” Martin, who couldn’t make the game today; “D.J.” D-Block, with the play-by-play commentary; Bysil “Boston Baked Bean Head” Major; and all the parents, family, and friends who supported the team.

JAN. 30
PUBLIC LEAGUE
Eng. and Science 43, Northeast 33
(By Guest Reporter/Team Member Hashim Alameri)

I was suspended for this game for coming to school late, so i decided to write the report . . .
As the teams were warming up it looked like it was going to be a pretty even matchup. Eng. & Sci. got the drums playing and the cheerleaders getting hyped; all in this in a gym with what seemed to be a 50-foot basketball court. Tipoff. E&S started off with a 9-0 run to get the crowd on their feet (Ted's note: Everyone in there has to pretty much stand an anyway -- smile). Then, Northeast responded and stopped the run with two foul shots by Sean "I am NOT a big man" Evans, followed by a trey rock (3-point jumpshot) from Jordan "P.C. for three" Green  to quiet the crowd. As the game went on, Sean completed a big dunk that got the E&S crowd hyped (???) That was followed by Nicolae McIntosh drawing the foul as he made the layup. And1. At the end of the first quarter it was NE 13, E&S 12. The second quarter was pretty quiet, but there were good defensive performances by players Keurlin" Lock-ups" Charles and Nicolae McIntosh. End of the first half: NE 21 E&S 17.
The third quarter was also slow, while Nicolae picked up his fourth foul.. End of third: NE 28 E&S 27...
Going into the fourth quarter, NE's players and our 3 fans were pretty excited. E&S started the 4th quarter with a run that gave them a 4-point lead.. But NE responded with a run of their own, with Tyron "I'll shoot the Lytes out in any gym" Lytes hittin' his second 3 pointer of the game, followed by Sean's showtime play that said, "I got handle and I can take it all the way on a fastbreak." He took it to the hole for 2 pts and wound up finishing with 12, plus a bunch of rebounds. NE seemed to have hope until E&S wasted about 2 mins passing the ball around, until NE defenders got impatient, and a guy made a move to the basket for an and1 play and a 3-point lead; that play fouled out Nicolae. Then, several seconds later, Sean also fouled out. After that is was pretty much history as NE started fouling and E&S made nearly all of its foul shots. NE missed about 15 free throws, which pretty much decided the game.
Key Players . . .
NE
#15 Sean Evans 12 pts.
#10 Jordan Green 9 pts.
E&S
#31Jaret Richardson 13 pts.
#34 Anthony Pough 12 pts.

JAN. 23
PUBLIC LEAGUE
Frankford 69, Northeast 41
(This report is a solo act -- Kennard Martin)

As you already know this game was crazy and they pulled out both sets of bleachers. The first quarter started off with so much energy. There were many key plays offensively and defensively. We had crazy blocks from Sean "Just call me Shiz" Evans and Nicolae "The Big Guy" McIntosh then we had some steals from Tyron "Lytes Out" Lytes and Keurlin "Da Glove" Charles and you know Jordan "P.C. For Three" Green banged a trey ball. Also there was a nice little iso where Sean Evans just blew straight pass former Northeast student turned traitor Barry Lewis. All this and you would think the score was extremely high but at the end of the first quarter it was only 12-8. With so many exciting plays it was hard to keep up but I did catch when Keurl was doing his thing on defense and stole the ball traveled coast-to-coast and laid the ball up for an easy deuce. Even though I don't like to write about some of things that the other team does I had to write about how Kenny "Move Or Get Dunked On" Spotwood went right up and slammed down a gym-shaking dunk on Nick McIntosh. As the 3rd quarter began Northeast was down 29-18 and the Vikings started off with a vicious attack led by Tyron Lytes splitting the defense and dishing the rock to Keurlin Charles for a bucket. Jordan Green had to get in on this when he drained a trey from beyond the arch. Tyron began taking over as he scored multiple times and started many plays up. Straight off the bench Marcus Booker scored a simple layup that would kind of help NE in the long run. The fourth quarter did not look good at all for Northeast. Let's leave it at that . . .

JAN. 18
PUBLIC LEAGUE
Dobbins 53,
Northeast 49

Yo, the Stop-'n-Pop gang was in the building again as the Northeast Vikings played the Murrell Dobbins Mustangs. The game started with a mean trey ball from none other than Jordan "P.C. for Three" Green then an easy lay up from Nicolae “Nick” McIntosh. Then another mean lean-in jumper from Jordan. A few more points and good defensive stops by the whole starting lineup. We got a little confused as Nick and Sean Evans both tipped the ball in for a bucket; who should have gotten credit we will never know. At the start of the second quarter the second ref finally got there and Corey "Lil' Mugsy" Wilkins hooked up with Nick from halfcourt for an alley oop lay-up. After most of the starters came out Corey was still going hard with a nice three bucket. When the second half started Keurlin "The Glove" Charles showed the crowd that he has some crazy moves as he drained a three then got the ball back, split the defense and freaked the last defender with a sweet layup. Then while both teams were wrestling for a loose ball a Dobbins player gets the ball and goes for a layup and Nick says "NOT IN MY HOUSE!!!" as he sent that ball flying with a monster block. At the end of the third quarter, Dobbins was able to take the lead that Northeast had all game. The 4th quarter did not look to good for the Vikings as they slowly begin losing their grip on the game. Even though the players were still fighting hard to hold on, it just wasn't enough as the Mustangs won the game. The main headliner for the Mustangs in their victory was Akeem Todd with 13 points and 4 assists.

JAN. 11
NON-LEAGUE
Northeast 82, GAMP 56

Northeast played great team basketball today and was able to come away with an easy win against the “BandGAMP Pioneers. The game started off as if it would be a good one with N.E. receiving a deep trey ball from jr. guard Jordan “P.C. For Three” Green (15 pts) and the “Band” responding with a trey ball of their own. But then that would be the end of the tie as NE began to pull away from GAMP as the first quarter ended. The second quarter was no different as sr. Keurlin “The Glove” Charles (16 pts, 12 boards) started the scoring off with a crazy crossover that left one of the “Band” members on chill en route to an easy layup. Then sr. Sean “Just Call Me Shiz” Evans (28 pts) dropped in two back-to-back buckets. NE received great defensive work today from guards jr. Tyron “Lytes Out” Lytes (6 pts), jr. Corey Wilkins, and sr. Courtney Jenkins. Their hustle forced many turnovers and easy fast break points. We also got to see Steven “Yeah I Stutta But I Still Give Out The Butta” Pinckney show why he is the only sophomore on the team as he contributed 5 points off the bench. Our youngin put up a career high today and he is now on his way to becoming a star. The third and fourth quarters didn’t really have any exciting moments so we don’t have anything to say about the second half. Although GAMP was down by a lot, they never gave up and they were led by Anthony “I’m Not With The Band I’m Just Here For The Bud Light” Venafro’s 20 points.
Funny of the Game

Northeast’s cheerleaders are getting ready for their competition that is coming up (GOOD LUCK) and we tried not to laugh but man do we feel sorry for the girls that were at the top of those pyramids. Girls were falling left and right and they were hitting the ground hard. At least we know that if we smell Icy Hot while we are in class tomorrow it has to be one of the cheerleaders. OUCH!!!

DEC. 12
PUBLIC LEAGUE

Northeast (new name Bird Gang!!) 79 Swenson 47

Are we there yet? It took us about 2 hours to find the Gym where the game took place because our driver Darryl Dawson thinks he knows everything so we didn't get to the game until the beginning of the fourth quarter. So forgive us for our short report. I guess this is not the way we wanted to start the season. But back to the game: When we arrived the starters were all done for the day, but we still got to see some entertainment. We guess somebody didn’t tell jr. guard Corey Wilkins (3 pts) that NE was up by 20 because he was still hustling like NE was down 20. Along with Corey was jr. guard Leon Buie (5 pts), jr. guard Devin Hill (4 boards, 5 pts), jr. forward Marcus Booker (8 boards, 2 blocks, 7 pts), and sr. forward Gabe Hines (4 boards, 2 pts). Fan favorite soph. forward Steven Pinckney hit a late three that got the team as well as all 10 of the NE fans hyped. NE was led by sr. wing-forward Sean Evans (5 boards, 2 steals, 19 pts), jr. combo guard Tyron Lytes (3 boards, 4 dimes, 13 pts), and jr. guard Jordan Green (12 pts). This NE team seems to have some chemistry as well as scorers, which will lead to many wins. So, any team out there that is doubting them better come to play because they look forward to disappointing a lot of teams this season.

Funny Of The Game

There wasn’t really anything funny about this game except for maybe the rap battle that occurred after the game. NE player Jordan Green, also know, as P.C. or Problem Child, battled some man (well he looked like a man) and P.C. easily won, which helped NE pick up a 2-0 lead on Swenson. Maybe NE and Swenson can play one more sport so NE can pick up a cool 3-0 sweep.
