FEB. 22
PUBLIC LEAGUE FIRST-ROUND PLAYOFF
Southern 70, Northeast 54
This game looked like it was going to take a buzzer-beater for either team to win. The first quarter didn’t produce many points but Nick “All I Do Is Block Shots” McIntosh was a reason for Southern’s low point score as he was sending shots flying. NE was up by one to end the first quarter and they started the second quarter off with a 4-0 run. Southern quickly called a timeout and after the timeout they responded with a 9-0 run of their own that was finally ended by back-to-back buckets by Sean "Shiz" Evans. NE ended the half with a trey ball from Jordan “P.C. For Three” Green (12 pts, 2 steals) and a deuce from Steve “The Rockstar” Pinckney to take a cool five-point lead. The third quarter started with exchanging buckets from the two headliners of the game Shiz Evans (26 pts) and Ramone Moore (24 pts, 5 boards, 3 assists). We don’t usually give ink to players from the other team but Robert "Elevator Man" McKee (17 pts, 9 boards) caught this nasty put-back and then threw down this crazy dunk off a fast break. But our boy Shiz never disappoints the crowd and he responded with a dunk on one of Southern’s players. This was a bad way for the boys to end the season but at least they can say they made the playoffs, something NE basketball team had not done in a couple of years.

Northeast played great
team basketball today and was able to come away with an easy win against
the “Band” GAMP Pioneers. The game started off as if it
would be a good one with N.E. receiving a deep trey ball from jr.
guard Jordan “P.C. For Three” Green (15 pts) and the “Band”
responding with a trey ball of their own. But then that would be the end
of the tie as NE began to pull away from GAMP as the first
quarter ended. The second quarter was no different as sr. Keurlin
“The Glove” Charles (16 pts, 12 boards) started the scoring
off with a crazy crossover that left one of the “Band” members on
chill en route to an easy layup. Then sr. Sean “Just Call Me Shiz”
Evans (28 pts) dropped in two back-to-back buckets. NE
received great defensive work today from guards jr. Tyron “Lytes Out”
Lytes (6 pts), jr. Corey Wilkins, and sr. Courtney
Jenkins. Their hustle forced many turnovers and easy fast break
points. We also got to see Steven “Yeah I Stutta But I Still Give Out
The Butta” Pinckney show why he is the only sophomore on the team as
he contributed 5 points off the bench. Our youngin put up
a career high today and he is now on his way to becoming a star. The
third and fourth quarters didn’t really have any exciting moments so we
don’t have anything to say about the second half. Although GAMP
was down by a lot, they never gave up and they were led by Anthony
“I’m Not With The Band I’m Just Here For The Bud Light” Venafro’s 20
points.
Funny of the Game
Are we there yet? It took us about 2 hours to find the Gym where the game took place because our driver Darryl Dawson thinks he knows everything so we didn't get to the game until the beginning of the fourth quarter. So forgive us for our short report. I guess this is not the way we wanted to start the season. But back to the game: When we arrived the starters were all done for the day, but we still got to see some entertainment. We guess somebody didn’t tell jr. guard Corey Wilkins (3 pts) that NE was up by 20 because he was still hustling like NE was down 20. Along with Corey was jr. guard Leon Buie (5 pts), jr. guard Devin Hill (4 boards, 5 pts), jr. forward Marcus Booker (8 boards, 2 blocks, 7 pts), and sr. forward Gabe Hines (4 boards, 2 pts). Fan favorite soph. forward Steven Pinckney hit a late three that got the team as well as all 10 of the NE fans hyped. NE was led by sr. wing-forward Sean Evans (5 boards, 2 steals, 19 pts), jr. combo guard Tyron Lytes (3 boards, 4 dimes, 13 pts), and jr. guard Jordan Green (12 pts). This NE team seems to have some chemistry as well as scorers, which will lead to many wins. So, any team out there that is doubting them better come to play because they look forward to disappointing a lot of teams this season.
There wasn’t really anything funny about this game except for maybe the rap battle that occurred after the game. NE player Jordan Green, also know, as P.C. or Problem Child, battled some man (well he looked like a man) and P.C. easily won, which helped NE pick up a 2-0 lead on Swenson. Maybe NE and Swenson can play one more sport so NE can pick up a cool 3-0 sweep.
