Here listed are Amauro’s top underclassmen in the Public League . . .
Eight positions are included. The top players are profiled. The other
quality players are listed from the best on down.

RUNNING BACKS

THE BEST
Jerry Butler 5-9 165 Jr. Washington – 157 carries for 1247 yards & 15 TDs (also 5 return TDs) should make this guy one of the more highly recruited backs in the state this summer. NO ONE possesses this kind of speed. You have to see it to believe it. The “Iceman” is also a natural dancer with superb vision.

Brandon Norris 5-9 170 Soph. Frankford – 39 carries for 407 yards are modest numbers right? Well how about adding 12 TDs to that and you’ll see just how amazing this sparingly used super-soph. really is. The “Future” blends uncanny vision with breakaway speed & toughness, should be on the D-I radar.

Lamone Fox 5-11 185 Soph. Southern – strong, hard-running back with great closing speed, hard to bring down, one of the pleasant surprises of the Pub, got it done on a bad team, continued improvement is expected.

Charles Whittington 5-9 255 Jr. (FB) Lincoln – no one tackler can bring the big fella down and he’s still learning, very good feet/agility, though he could be in better shape, could make for a “Bus-like” tail-back at the next level, a wide-load at this level.

OTHERS TO WATCH

Terrell Denson 5-10 205 Jr. Lincoln

Jared Williams 5-10 180 Jr. King

Chris Banks 5-9 175 Jr. Northeast

Chris Mitchell 6-1 190 Jr. Roxborough

Jadrien “J.J” Reynolds 5-10 170 Jr. Mastbaum

Rashad “Reds” Williams 5-6 160 Jr. Dobbins (also return specialist)

Akeem Johnson 5-7 160 Soph. Germantown

Demetrius Atwell 5-10 175 Soph. Franklin

RECEIVERS

THE BEST

Rockeed McCarter 6-4 190 Soph. Northeast – this guy better get his act together right now because he just may be the top guy on the entire list, has it all from speed to strength to hands to athleticism. His brother Rodney (Bok, now starring @ James Madison) had a teammate that looked just like him a few years ago!

Dominique Curry 6-3 200 Jr. Washington – has that ever-popular football look, superior athlete on a team of athletes, quite possibly projected as a big possession receiver (TE for now), large frame, big strong hands, only 3 catches on the year (2 were TDs), also a standout on defense at end (possible LB).

OTHERS TO WATCH

Charles Henryhand 5-11 185 Jr. West

Rodney Sykes 5-11 175 Jr. Central

Ifen Onwodi 6-1 185 Jr. Mastbaum

Raymond Roy 6-1 175 Jr. Washington

James Morgan 6-1 230 Jr. (TE) Overbrook

QUARTERBACKS

THE BEST

Jeff Campbell 6-3 185 Jr. King – this big guy intrigues me more than anyone on the list, looks to still be growing and filling out, wiry strong/athletic, soaks up teaching, ROCKET arm, could sparkle in time, 12 TD passes.

Lamont Brown 6-3 190 Jr. Frankford – strong, tough winner has never lost a start, great size, impressive numbers (47-for-83, 979 11TD, 8INT) on a squad that believes running is the gospel, rises in the big games, arguably the best.

Joe Marshall 6-1 180 Jr. Central – only 1 varsity start, but boy was it a good one as this kid proved himself on a large stage in a tough situation, very strong arm, brassy & tough, can only get better, in the perfect system for his skills.

OTHERS TO WATCH

Brandon Cuff 6-0 180 Jr. Germantown

Markies Tavares 5-10 175 Jr. Mastbaum

Jalil Harris 5-10 180 Jr. Southern

OFFENSIVE LINEMEN

THE BEST

Lamont Lee-Edgefield 6-1 270 C Jr. Gratz – aggressive, stands ground and has a greats set of hands, has the looks of a natural, room to fill-out, eager to learn.

Darren Watson 6-5 315 T Soph. West – big “D” has a ways to go, but made huge progress by November, seems to grow every time I see him. If he gets to be half as good as his very talented brothers, he’ll be a D-I prospect.

OTHERS TO WATCH

Purcell Little 6-1 340 T Frosh Olney

David Still 6-3 300 T Jr. Franklin

SPECIALISTS

THE BEST

Steven Sydnor 6-2 180 QB-DB Jr. Dobbins – equally good as both an option QB & CB so its hard to say what position, needless to say he’s one of the Pub’s best returnees. I haven’t seen enough of him at QB, but at corner (6 picks, 2 returned TDs) he’s a natural who has the versatility to cover the possession or speed receiver, also a quality kicker.

David Pough 6-0 185 K Jr. Mastbaum – strongest leg (18 XPs) in the Pub in the last 5 years, also a hard-hitting LB who could project as a strong safety in college, could play anywhere on offense, just may have been team’s top prospect this year.

Sammy Tranks 5-10 155 MP-DB-Rtn Jr. King – 6 TDs (4 Rec, 2 rush) on the season, big play threat to say the least, speed demon who could thrive in college as a return specialist and nickel corner or 3rd down back, 2004’s version of Arnold Mullins.

OTHERS TO WATCH

Devon Johnson 5-10 175 MP (listed RB) Jr. Central

Jeremiah Pitt 6-0 175 MP (listed RB) Jr. Washington

LINEBACKERS

THE BEST

Cornelius Bunch 5-11 205 (WLB) Jr. Central – quite possibly the Pub’s best pass rusher, always disruptive and a hard stopper, should be the top backer in the League in 2004 and also a solid college prospect for I-AA & IIs.

OTHERS TO WATCH

Perrell Jones 5-9 200 Jr. Mastbaum

Andre Fisher 5-10 190 Soph. Germantown

Tyrell Coleman 5-9 180 Frosh Bartram

Rory Stallworth 5-10 200 Jr. Lincoln

Atland Williams 5-11 190 Soph. West

DEFENSIVE LINEMEN

THE BEST
   David Gonser
6-2 240 NG (possible DE) Jr. Washington – Gonser & monster rhyme for a reason as there is no better way to describe this guy, always intense and stronger than just about everyone else, a physical specimen to say the least, always in on plays, just may be Eagles BEST football player.

Don “Florida” Williford 6-2 235 DE Jr. Germantown – very similar to Gonser in terms of intensity and tenaciousness & playmaking for that matter, extremely strong too, always in the backfield, possible blocking FB at the next level as well.

Robert Williams 6-3 290 DT Soph. Dobbins – this youngster is strong, tough & aggressive, he never seems to tire either, all he needs to do is keep up the good work (on and off the field & in the weight room) and good things will come.

John McFillin 6-5 195 DE (possible coverage LB) Jr. Washington – one of the more intriguing players on this list as Big John has much room to grow & fill-out, his future could be as a TE or even as I see it as a strong-side LB who excels at picking up TEs.

Stefan Ruff 6-0 265 DT (possible NG) Jr. Washington – strong, stocky interior lineman that is just hard to move, lower body of a tank, mean & physical, run specialist, underrated on a team filled w/ prospects.

James Destouet 6-2 300 DT Soph. West – strong, aggressive lineman who manhandles his counterparts, played JV for most of the season, but made a big splash in late season varsity action, now is possibly his team’s BEST player.

Lawrence “Juicy” Brown 6-0 310 NG Soph. West – part of a tandem (with Destouet) that will be feared for the next few years, naturally strong & aggressive, tough as nails, already experienced, progress is a must.

OTHERS TO WATCH

Joe DiGrazio 6-1 215 DE Jr. Lincoln

Angel Gonzalez 6-3 275 DT Soph. Frankford

Deshan Lupton 6-1 200 DE (possible LB) Jr. King

DEFENSIVE BACKS

THE BEST

Charles Hughes 6-1 195 SS Jr. Washington – led the Pub with 9 picks this year from his FS perch, makes for a nice SS at the next level, great build and better instincts, tough, student of the game, will also start at QB, plays big in big games.

Sherrod Evers 6-2 175 CB Jr. Mastbaum Tech – another big skilled corner which is essential these days with the receivers getting bigger and bigger, very spidery/rangy, breaks to the ball, daily progress.

Amir Ryan 6-1 185 CB (possible FS) Jr. Southern – still raw, but has that cover-man mentality that you just can’t teach, keeps coming, has one other thing that you can’t teach and that is the passion for hitting people and that’s not to be underrated, also has great size/body for position, very intriguing.

Mikal Sabree 5-8 145 CB Jr. Washington

Cory Moultrie 5-9 155 CB Jr. Bok
