D-Blockk & Rebound Darnell
"D-Blockk" Harris, a former
basketball player for Northeast High (class of 2005), is back with our nutty
crew. He has asked to resume covering games this season and, at the good, ol' dot.com,
that's all it takes. |

PUBLIC LEAGUE
Northeast 71, Central 67
My third game reporting turned out to be a very good overtime
thriller!!! The Northeast Vikings pulled it out against the Central Lancers in
OT, 71 to 67, so let me tell y'all how it went down. The first quarter was a
good one and Central led by only 1 point, Northeast turned their defense up and
took a 4pt lead at halftime, with their Sr. star G DeAndre Williams only
having 7pts. Northeast coach Ira Stern must have given a good halftime
speech because NE came out focused for the second half, going up by as many as
12pts. Williams dropped 10pts in the third and the lead was 8 after 3 quarters.
In the 4th quarter, Central Sr. star G Kyle Lafferty decide to wake up
and he hit 3 back-to-back-to-back layups with the foul, which gave Central a
1point lead and caused the home crowd to go crazy!!! Williams had help as he
drives to the lane and dish out to a open Sr G Daquan Bohannan, who
nailed it from 3pt range -- Bohannan was huge, going 4 for 5 from behind the
arc. So it was tied and Central had a chance to win it with 7 seconds left.
Lafferty had the ball, but was pressured so he passed to Sr. F Romario Dorlus
for 3, and it hit off the front rim and that meant overtime!! OT was all NE.
Williams drives to the lane and converts the layup and free throw. And1! That
gave them a 3pt lead and the Vikings never looked back!!
Williams ended the game with 29 (pts), 10(asts), 5(rebs), 2(stls), Bohannan
finished with 16(pts), 5(rebs), 5 (stls). Central was led by their star
Lafferty, who poured in 31(pts) while adding 4(rebs), 3(asts). He had some help
from Jr. C. Chris Bing 16(pts), 8(rebs), 6(blks) Notes: DeAndre
Williams put his team on his back, scoring 22 of his 29(pts) after the first
half. Williams has the Vikings rolling as they've won the last 7 out of 8 games.
Central's star Lafferty just wasn't enough to outlast the Vikings, but they
still sit near the top of the division as this was only their 2nd division loss.
Other stats:
Central:
Romario Dorlus 11(pts)
Greg Holdsman 3(pts)
Kadin Marshall 2(pts)
Chace McCall 2(pts)
Khalil Williams 2(pts)
Northeast:
Gregory Mickens 4(pts)
Tony Nayan 6(pts)
Will Ofrafo-Smart 2(pts)
Kyree Simpson 8(pts)
Elmange Watson 2(pts)
Omari Wilson 4(pts)

NON-LEAGUE
E&S 59, Central 51
In my 2nd game reporting this season, it was my first Friday night
game and it was packed. This was a non-league matchup between the visiting
Central Lancers vs. E&S. The Lancers couldn't regain the lead as they lost
59-51. It was a very good and interesting game and E&S pulled it off and came
away with the Win! Central came out strong behind their star sr. G Kyle
Lafferty, who went 3 for 4 from behind the arc in the first half and gave
the Lancers a 7-point lead. Lafferty ended the game with 16 (pts) and 6 (rebs).
He had some help from So. F Khalil Williams 13 (pts), 8 (rebs). E&S was
lead by a trio of guards. Sr. star G Shakore Taylor is very athletic and
shows good drives to the basket and deep range from behind the arc. He had 16
(pts), 5 (rebs), and 3 (ast). Taylor had help. Off the bench was Jr. G Evan
Williams, who dazzled his home crowd with his sharpshooting from behind the
3-pt line. He went (4-for-5) from 3-pt range and ended up with 16 (pts), 5 (ast),
and 3 (stls). More help came from their Jr. star G, Eric Lewis, who
showed great leadership and drives to the basket. He amazed me and his home
crowd with his handling ability and fancy drives to the basket. He had 14(pts),
7(ast), 5(reb), and 3(stls). Once those three guards got it going they stormed
back in the 3rd quarter and never let Central take back the lead.
Notes: E&S looked pretty good as they pulled off their 3rd win in a row.
Central played good but came up with the loss.
Other stats:
E&S
Omari Franklin 8(pts)
Johathan Hall 5(pts)
Central
Chris Bing 10(pts)
Ramario Dorlus 5(pts)
Gregory Holdsman 5(pts)
Kadin Marshall 2(pts)

PUBLIC C
Northeast 76, Audenried 42
In my first game reporting for the 2012-13 hoop season, it was Audenried
Charter visiting the Vikings of Northeast in a Public League Division C matchup.
This game was pretty much a blowout as Northeast got the easy win, 76-42. From
the beginning Audenried was rattled by the Vikings' full-court man-to-man
defense, which racked up 16 steals. The Vikings were led by theire star sr.
guard combo. DeAndre Williams poured in 30 pts while adding 5 rebounds, 6
assists and 5 steasls. He received some help from classmate F Gregory Mickens,
who dropped 13 points and claimed 8 rebounds. Two-sport competitor Daquan
Bohannan, a sr. G, added 9 pts; he's the Vikings star QB in football. I also
saw flashes from promising jr. F. Omari Wilson, who added 5 pts, 8 rebs,
4 stls. Audenreid had a two-man show led by sr. F Qaadir Nock (15 pts)
and G Devon Jacobs (12).
Notes: Vikings looked good as they got their first Pub C win. Audenried
is still lookin for its first division win.
