Top 10 Blitz:
A new top dog in this week’s poll and the honor goes to La Salle, who pulled off a shocking CL Red championship win over SJ. Prep. The Explorers were a great football team all year long. An opportunistic defense forced four Prep turnovers and allowed just one score. Congrats to the Explorers! SJ Prep will only fall one spot, but I doubt they’ll be satisfied. The Hawks are now (4-3) in CL Red title games over the past seven season. This is a terrific team, who had a tremendous season, but I’m almost positive they’ll carry this bad taste in their mouths for many months. Penn Charter checks in at the third spot and has finished their season. Malvern is fourth after cruising past Bonner on Thanksgiving eve in resounding fashion, 40-6. Roman knocked off a game Roxborough club 19-6 in their annual clash. The Cahillites return some quality juniors and should once again be a threat next season. Wood remains in sixth after a bye week as they prepare for the CL Blue finale versus West. The Vikings will be looking for to hoist the hardware for the fourth consecutive season. North Catholic ended a tremendous year with a 24-13 victory over rival Frankford. It was good to see the Falcons resurgence. West Catholic slipped by Penn Wood 7-0. Now, they’ll turn their attention to the CL Blue final this weekend against Wood. Germantown Academy and Chestnut Hill claim the last spots. Both of these squad’s seasons ended two weeks ago. Lurking in the Under Considerations are; Frankford, George Washington, Neumann-Goretti, Bok, Ryan, and Roxborough.

3. Penn Charter (8-2)
4. Malvern (7-2)
5. Roman (8-3)
6. Wood (9-2)
7. Frankford (9-1)
8. West Catholic (7-4)
9. North Catholic (7-5)
10. George Washngton (9-3)
Under Consideration:
 Germantown Acadmey (7-3), Father Judge (6-5), Chestnut Hill (7-3), Neumann-Goretti (7-5), & Bok (9-2).
Top 10 Blitz:
Many had hoped that North Catholic could give the top ranked St. Joe’s Prep some sort of difficulty, but it just wasn’t meant to be. The Hawks smothered the Falcons 36-0 to reach their seventh consecutive CL Red title game. They’ll look for their fifth win versus rival La Salle the day after Thanksgiving. La Salle’s defense rebounded nicely and stymied Roman all night in their semifinal win. Passing-whiz John Harrison tossed four more TDs in the win. The Explorers, who fell to the mighty Hawks 42-12 earlier this season, will give it another whirl in the final. Inter-Ac champ Penn Charter holds the third spot with their season already concluded. Malvern comes in at the fourth spot. They’ll tangle with Bonner in a Thanksgiving eve match-up. Roman slips to the fifth spot after loss to La Salle. They’ll end season with traditional game against Roxborough. Wood managed to get by Neumann-Goretti 16-6 in a semifinal tussle. The Vikings will look for fourth consecutive CL Blue championship in two weekends. Frankford edged George Washington on late field goal to claim District-12 crown. They’ll battle long-time neighborhood rivals North Catholic on Thursday. West Catholic sped past Conwell-Egan 42-7 in Blue semifinal. They have now reached the CL Blue title game for a fifth straight year. They’ll play Penn Wood in holiday tune-up first. North Catholic’s run in the CL Red came to end at the hands of SJ Prep. They’ll try to cap a memorable season with win over Frankford on Turkey Day. George Washington lost a heartbreaker to Frankford in Pub final. They’ll end season with a clash against Ryan. Teams in the Under Consideration grouping are: Neumann-Goretti, Germantown Academy, Chestnut Hill, Father Judge, and Bok.

6. Malvern (7-2)
7. Wood (8-2)

Top 10 Blitz:
Coming off a bye week St. Joe’s Prep will prepare this week for North Catholic. The Hawks beat the Falcons 28-0 three weeks ago. The quest for a fifth title in seven years begins Friday night. Roman will take on La Salle for the second time in three weeks. The Cahillites bested the Explorers in that game 27-21 in double-OT. They are led by the running prowess of junior Balial Lewis. Penn Charter wrapped up the Inter-Ac title with a solid victory over Germantown Academy, 21-10. La Salle needed overtime and a two-point conversion pass from John Harrison to Joe Migliarese to squeak past O’Hara 39-38 in a CL Red dandy. Behind the rushing of Daryl Robinson and Terrell Oglesby North Catholic soared to 426 total yards in their playoff win versus neighborhood rival Father Judge. They’ll have the difficult chore of trying to knock off SJ Prep this weekend. Malvern eeked past Chestnut Hill 18-17 in Inter-Ac finale. They’ll sit around for a week before playing Bonner on the night before Thanksgiving. Wood will face a tough Neumann-Goretti team in CL Blue semifinal match-up this Saturday. The Vikings beat the Saints 28-13 in regular season meeting. Despite some injuries in their offensive backfield Frankford zipped past Dobbins in Pub Semi. They’ll be looking to capture second straight District-12 title with win over George Washington on Saturday. West Catholic moves up a spot despite not playing. They’ll bang heads with Conwell-Egan on Friday night in CL Blue semifinal. The Eagles gave the Burrs their only blemish in Blue play this season. George Washington garners the tenth spot after 19-10 win over Northeast in another Pub semifinal. Running back Fateen Brown leads a balanced rushing attack for the Eagles. Under Consideration we have; Germantown Academy and Chestnut Hill, who both ended their seasons with losses. Neumann-Goretti holds steady with a narrow 13-12 win over Carroll. Father Judge slips down after 30-27 defeat to North.

2. Roman (8-2)
3. Penn Charter (7-2)

6. Malvern (6-2)
7. Wood (8-2)
8. Frankford (7-1)
9. Father Judge (6-4)
10. West Catholic (6-4)
Under Consideration:
 Germantown Academy (7-2), George Washington (8-2),  Chestnut Hill (7-2) & Neumann-Goretti (6-4).
Top 10 Blitz:
   St. Joe’s Prep
will head into the playoffs as the number one team. QB Chris Whitney threw for 270 yards in the Hawks 41-7 spanking of O’Hara. The Hawks finished off another unbeaten CL Red season and have won 49 straight regular season games. Roman moves up the second spot after a 27-21 double-OT win over LaSalle. Virginia recruit Dom Joseph posted three picks in the victory. Penn Charter had little mercy for Haverford School in their 56-0 rout. They’ll have to deal with GA and workhorse rusher Alex Holcombe this weekend. La Salle slips to fourth and have now lost three straight. With weather starting to become more of a factor will the Explorers pass-happy offense suffer come playoff time? North Catholic eased past Bonner 35-21 in pre-playoff tune-up. They’ll clash with neighborhood rivals Father Judge for semifinal berth. Malvern ripped into Episcopal 41-7. They’ll face a dangerous Chestnut Hill squad this weekend. Wood slips to seventh after defeat to CL Blue rival West Catholic. The loss halted an 18-game regular season win streak for the Vikings. Frankford raced past Olney with minimal resistance. They’ll tackle Dobbins in the first half of a Pub semifinal doubleheader. Father Judge ended the regular season with an impressive 20-3 victory over Ryan. The win allowed O’Hara to garner a playoff berth. The Crusaders, a 35-14 loser versus North in the regular season will look for revenge against the Falcons this weekend. West Catholic rounds out the Top10 after confidence-building 13-12 victory over Wood for CL Blue regular season crown. They’ll have a week off before quest for fifth consecutive title game appearance begins. Teams in the Under Consideration group include; George Washington, a 43-0 thrashing over Bartram propelled them into semifinal action in the Pub this weekend. Chestnut Hill gave up 28 second half points to GA and fall out of the Top 10. Germantown Academy remains in the hunt for some Top 10 affection with win over C. Hill. Rounding out the UC’s is Neumann-Goretti who ended the regular season with a 38-22 win over Dougherty. The Saints are a sleeper squad in the CL Blue playoffs this year.

WEEK 10/31/06
1. SJ Prep (7-2)
2. Wood (8-1)
3. LaSalle (7-2)
4. Penn Charter (6-2)
5. Roman (7-2)
6. Chestnut Hill (7-1)
7. North Catholic (5-4)
8. Malvern (5-2)
9. Frankford (6-1)
10. Father Judge (5-4)
Under Consideration:
 Germantown Acadmey (6-2) Bartram (7-1), Bok (8-0), Central (7-1), George Washington (7-2), Ryan (3-6), West Catholic (5-4), & Neumann-Goretti (5-4).
Top 10 Blitz:
St. Joe’s Prep used a stingy defense and solid play from QB Chris Whitney to knock off a tough North squad. The win clinched first place for the Hawks. Wood smoked Dougherty 44-6 to move up to the second slot. They’ll be looking for their third CL Blue regular season title in four years this Saturday in game against West Catholic. La Salle slips to third after being edged by Ryan 14-12. The Explorers will look to rebound versus Roman in game that will decide second place and a first-round bye. Penn Charter is fourth after a huge win over Inter-Ac rival Malvern. A late defensive stand afforded them the win. Roman bested O’Hara 17-7 and moves back up the charts to fifth. This Cahillite defense is one of the more underrated groups in the city. Chestnut Hill had to wait an extra day, but still knocked off Episcopal 27-13. RB Rashad Campbell continues to shred opposing defenses. North Catholic fought tooth and nail against the mighty Hawks, but fell 28-0. They’ll prepare for the playoffs with a tune-up versus Bonner on Saturday. Malvern slips to eighth after defeat to Penn Charter. The defending Inter-Ac champs will need some help to get a share of the crown. Frankford stymied neighborhood rival Northeast 20-0 for their sixth straight victory. They’ll face Olney in Quarterfinal match-up. Father Judge finds themselves back in the Top 10 after 28-8 thumping of Bonner. Huge game, with playoff implications looms with Ryan this Friday. Four playoff-bound Pub squads fall into the under considerations including; Bok, George Washington, Bartram, and Central. A couple of CL Blue teams; West Catholic and Neumann-Goretti find their way into this group after solid victories this past weekend. Germantown Academy had a scare from Haverford School. And even though they won the game it wasn’t good enough to keep them in the Top 10. No need to worry Patriot faithful; win this week over Chestnut Hill and you’ll be back. I have to give Ryan some love this week even though they’re three games under .500. They knocked off La Salle behind two INT TD return by Nick Ferdinand. They also own a win over the current #2 team Wood.

WEEK 10/23/06
1. SJ Prep (6-2)
2. LaSalle (7-1)
3. Malvern (5-1)
4. Wood (7-1)
5. Penn Charter (5-2)
6. Chestnut Hill (6-1)
7. North Catholic (5-3)
8. Roman (6-2)
9. Frankford (5-1)
10. Germantown Academy (5-2)
Under Consideration:
 Father Judge (4-4) Bartram (6-1), Roxborough (7-1), Bok (7-0), Central (6-1), George Washington (6-2), & Ben Franklin (7-1).
Top 10 Blitz:
Time to make a statement! Yes, that is exactly what St. Joe’s Prep, the #1 ranked team in this week’s poll, did over the weekend. The Hawks left little doubt who is the best team not only in this city, but more likely this side of the state with their 42-14 thrashing of La Salle. The Explorers remain in the second slot despite the setback. They are still a very good team, but the Hawks are just too strong along the line of scrimmage for just about any team. Malvern check in at the third slot with 40-30 win over Germantown Academy. Heavy graduation hasn’t slowed the Friars down yet, and we’ll see where they end up. Wood loses their starting running back. No problem! As converted WR Pat Devlin steps in to set a school-record with 281 yards rushing. Amazing! Penn Charter needed a late score to slip past Episcopal on Friday. Inter-Ac title hopes will be on the line this week versus Malvern. Chestnut Hill narrowly escapes upset bid by Haverford School. They’ll need to play better this week versus Episcopal to keep possible I-A title hopes alive. North Catholic keeps rolling along, this time with 31-15 pounding of Ryan. They’ll face SJ Prep this Saturday. Can the Falcons continue their stingy play on defense against the high-powered Hawks? Roman slips down to eighth after losing to streaky Father Judge 10-7. No gimme this week in game against O’Hara, winners of two straight. Frankford outlasted Dobbins 38-25 in shootout. Will travel the short distance to tackle league rival Northeast this week. Germantown Academy remains in tenth spot with game effort in loss to Malvern. The Pats will host Haverford School on Saturday. There are six District-12 hopefuls in the under consideration group this week; Bok, Bartram, Roxborough, Central, George Washington, and Franklin. Father Judge sneaks back into those on my mind with a solid win over Roman.

WEEK 10/16/06
1. SJ Prep (5-2)
2. LaSalle (7-0)
3. Roman (6-1)
4. Malvern (4-1)
5. Wood (6-1)
6. Penn Charter (4-2)
7. Chestnut Hill (5-1)
8. North Catholic (4-3)
9. Frankford (4-1)
10. Germantown Academy (5-1)
Under Consideration:
 Episcopal (4-2), Bartram (5-1), Neumann-Goretti (4-3) Roxborough (6-1), Bok (6-0), Central (5-1), Ben Franklin (6-1) & George Washington (5-2).
Top 10 Blitz:
Top-ranked St. Joe’s withstood a first half struggle to eventually pull away from Father Judge 24-0. Arch-rival LaSalle looms on Saturday in a CL Red goody. La Salle pasted Bonner 35-7, but did it come at a cost? QB John Harrison, who has torched opposing defenses fell victim to a leg injury. We’ll see how serious an issue this is come Saturday when the Explorers tackle the Hawks. Roman squeaked by North thanks to a late blocked PAT by Nick Moody. They travel to play a slipping Judge team this Saturday, still not an easy task though. Malvern rolled past Haverford School in league opener. Will bang heads with a surging GA squad this weekend. Thanks to a Chris Lorditch field goal and interception return for touchdown Wood slipped past McDevitt 10-0. They’ll need to hit the scoreboard a little more frequently against Conwell-Egan this Saturday. Penn Charter moves into the sixth spot after huge win over Chestnut Hill in I-A opener. This team just repeatedly always finds a way to get it done. Chestnut Hill almost doubled PC in yards, but fell 17-14. RB Rashad Campbell is rapidly turning into one of the city’s most exciting players. Got to love the grit and toughness the North Catholic defense brings. The Falcons did fall to #3 Roman, but were game in doing so. Frankford got the best of George Washington in Pub battle. Now they control their own destiny as the #1 seed in the D-12 playoffs. Riding the powerful legs of RB Alex Holcombe Germantown Academy stormed past Episcopal with surprising ease, 38-7. Is this team for real? We’ll find out this weekend when they play I-A power Malvern. Teams remaining in the under consideration group are: Neumann-Goretti after an awesome display of rushing in their 44-46 win over Conwell-Egan. Bartram, Bok, and Central all posted wins and remain in the hunt for a Top1 0 spot. Despite losing to Central Roxborough holds a spot too. Ben Franklin is the lone newcomer to the bunch. Meanwhile, George Washington drops out of the Top 10, but still gets a little consideration.

WEEK 10/10/06
1. SJ Prep (4-2)
2. LaSalle (6-0)
3. Roman (5-1)
4. Malvern (3-1)
5. Chestnut Hill (5-0)
6. Wood (5-1)
7. North Catholic (4-2)
8. George Washington (5-1)
9. Penn Charter (3-2)
10. Frankford (3-1)
Under Consideration:
 Episcopal (4-1), Ryan (2-4), Father Judge (3-3) Bartram (4-1), Neumann-Goretti (3-3) Roxborough (6-0), Bok (5-0), Conwell-Egan (3-3), Central (4-1), & Germ. Academy (4-1).
Top 10 Blitz:
   St. Joe’s Prep
is the number one team again after their 55-0 thrashing of Bonner. They ripped off an astonishing 490 yards in doing so. They’ll face a sliding Father Judge squad this week. La Salle went on the road and handled a struggling O’Hara squad 24-7. They’ll face Bonner in a tune-up before their clash with the Prep in two weeks. Roman raced past Ryan 35-7, as Virginia-recruit Dom Joseph scored three touchdowns. Malvern slips to fourth after losing to a strong Salesianum club. They’ll begin Inter-Ac play at Haverford School. Chestnut Hill remains unbeaten and one of the surprise teams in the city. Major test this week when they host Penn Charter in I-A opener. Wood has now won three straight and still look like the team to beat in the CL Blue. You just have to love what North Catholic has done so far this season. Easily the story of the season! They’re coming off an impressive 34-14 victory over neighborhood rival Judge. It won’t get any easier this week versus Roman. George Washington is still riding high in the Pub after a 28-7 win over Dobbins. Penn Charter fell to a tough Valley Forge squad, 12-6. They’ll look to get off on the right foot against Chestnut Hill. Frankford enters the Top 10 for the first time after rolling past Simon Gratz. They’ll have a big-time match-up with GW this week. I’ll be looking forward to that one! Newcomers in the under considerations are Conwell-Egan, Central, and Germantown Academy. Both Ryan and Judge slip into this group after loses. Rounding out this group are; Episcopal, Bartram, Neumann-Goretti, Roxborough, and Bok.

WEEK 10/3/06
1. SJ Prep (3-2)
2. La Salle (5-0)
3. Malvern (3-0)
4. Roman (4-1)
5. Chestnut Hill (4-0)
6. Father Judge (3-2)
7. Ryan (2-3)
8. Wood (4-1)
9. North Catholic (3-2)
10. George Washington (4-1)
Under Consideration:
   Episcopal (3-1), Frankford (2-1), O’Hara (1-4), West Catholic (2-3), Bartram (4-0),
Penn Charter (3-1), Neumann-Goretti (3-2), Roxborough (5-0), & Bok (4-0).
Top 10 Blitz:
Perched at the top of the poll is St. Joe’s Prep for the third straight week. The Hawks raced past Ryan 31-12 this past weekend and will tackle a struggling Bonner team this coming week. La Salle continues to be impressive with a 35-14 thumping of Judge. They’ll battle a desperate and reeling O’Hara team on Sunday. Malvern remains unbeaten, but their perfect season will be tested this weekend when they play Salesianum, one of Delaware’s best. Roman rebounded nicely with 29-6 pasting of Bonner. Placement within the CL Red standings will be on the line this week with a huge game against Ryan. Behind the tremendous rushing of Rashad Campbell, Chestnut Hill continues to soar up the rankings. They demolished St. Pius X (Roseto) this past week, which entered the game ranked 8th in the state at the single-A level. Father Judge came back to earth with a humbling defeat to La Salle. They’ll look to rebound versus North Catholic, their neighborhood rival and a team that has a lot of confidence at the moment. Ryan fell to the mighty Hawks, but a win this week over Roman would ertainly ease that pain. Wood made quick work of an undermanned Kennedy-Kenrick squad. They’ll face an improving Neumann-Goretti team on Friday night. North Catholic enters the top ten for the first time this year after a surprising 13-12 victory over O’Hara. Speedster Daryl Robinson only needs a little space and this past week he found some on two occasions. George Washington blanked Pub rival Northeast 19-0. The Eagles have been playing nice defense in the early going. There are some newcomers in the under considerations this week; Pub upstarts Bok and Roxborough make a first-time appearance. Frankford remains in this group and something tells me they just might be lying in the weeds for their game against GW. The Inter-Ac looks to be as balanced as it has been in a while, as Penn Charter and Episcopal find a little room in this bunch. O’Hara has been slipping, but something tells me that they still have time to turn the season around. Neumann-Goretti is coming off a huge road win at Carroll, possibly their biggest in some time. This team appears to be dangerous. West Catholic sped past Dougherty to the tune of 51-14. They have an interesting match-up with Conwell-Egan on Friday night.

WEEK 9/25/06
1. SJ Prep (2-2)
2. LaSalle (4-0)
3. Father Judge (3-1)
4. Malvern (2-0)
5. O’Hara (1-3)
6. Ryan (2-2)
7. Roman (3-1)
8. Wood (3-1)
9. Chestnut Hill (3-0)
10. George Washington (3-1)
Under Consideration:
 Episcopal (2-1), Frankford (1-1), Carroll (1-3), West Catholic (1-3), Bartram (3-0), Penn Charter (2-1), Neumann-Goretti (2-2) & North Catholic (2-2).
Top 10 Blitz:
Staying in the top spot is St. Joe’s Prep after a resounding win over Roman. I just know the final score (40-0) didn’t put any smiles on the faces of their CL Red counterparts. La Salle squeaked by a game North squad and remains in the second slot. They have a huge game this weekend with Father Judge, the third ranked squad in this week’s poll. The Crusaders played a dandy of a contest this past week with a 35-28 win over O’Hara. Malvern was idle this past weekend, but stays in the fourth position. They get back to work this week versus The Hun School. O’Hara slips two spots and will look to rebound against an improving North team this Saturday. A healthy return of John Dempsey would certainly help their cause. Ryan accumulated 538 yards in offense in their pasting of Bonner. I’m pretty sure things won’t be as easy this weekend when the mighty Hawks come calling. It will be rebound time for Roman as they travel to Upper Darby to tackle a struggling Bonner club. Could be just what the doctor ordered after last week’s thrashing. Wood moves up a spot to eighth, and had to overcome a 25-0 deficit to do so, with 26 unanswered points. Amazing! Chestnut Hill is the lone newcomer this week after a nice 15-7 road win over Pub favorite George Washington. I’m interested to see how this team fares in the Inter-Ac. GW slips four spots to round out this week’s Top 10. Will tackle division rival Northeast this coming week. The under consideration group this week includes three teams who actually lost last week; North, Carroll, and Episcopal, as all three fell to quality competition. Also in the UC group are first-time winners West Catholic and Frankford.  Neumann-Goretti sneaks in to garner some love, as does Penn Charter and an intriguing Bartram squad.

WEEK 9/19/06
1. SJ Prep (1-2)
2. LaSalle (3-0)
3. O’Hara (1-2)
4. Malvern (2-0)
5. Roman (3-0)
6. George Washington (3-0)
7. Father Judge (2-1)
8. Ryan (1-2)
9. Wood (2-1)
10. Episcopal (2-0)
Under Consideration:
 Central (2-0), Frankford (0-1), Carroll (1-2), West Catholic (0-3), Chestnut Hill (2-0), Penn Charter (1-1), & North Catholic (2-1).
Top 10 Blitz:
   St. Joe’s Prep,
despite a losing record, remains as the top dog in this week’s poll. Two losses to national programs aren’t enough for me to knock them down a notch or two. They're still the team to beat in this area until someone else shows me different. Good luck! La Salle’s offense has been rolling in the early going putting points on the board at will, but will their defense get the job done versus quality league foes? Stay tuned! I’m sure O’Hara enjoyed the experience of national exposure, but I’m not so sure they liked the forty-eight minutes between the lines against a powerful Colerain squad. Interesting game with Judge lies ahead. Malvern ripped a decent WC Henderson squad and once again seem primed for another successful season. Roman forced nine turnovers, I repeat, NINE TURNOVERS in a win over Valley Forge. The upstart Cahillites now have their sights set on making their mark in the CL Red. The mighty Hawks are up first. Looks like George Washington will be the cream of the Pub this season. What else is new? A one-year hiatus from this title is long enough. Father Judge has a two-game winning streak heading into a pivotal early-season match-up with O’Hara. Will the Crusaders be ready for the challenge? You have to figure that competitive losses to Pennsbury and Neshaminy had something to do with Ryan’s huge win over Wood. Wood came back down to the ground some with a rare home defeat to Ryan. Still, they remain the team to beat in the CL Blue. Episcopal’s Bobby FitzPatrick has begun this season like big bro Brian did a couple of years ago. The Churchmen have high hopes in the Inter-Ac. Included in the Under Considerations is a winless West Catholic squad. The Burrs opponents are a combined (9-0) and are all ranked teams in their respective cities. North Catholic sees itself sitting on the positive side of the .500 mark for the first time in a long time. Not sure how long it will last, but I like the energy and commitment I see from their sidelines. In the end Central just might show to be the Pub’s second best squad. QB John Kennedy leads a balanced and productive offense. Frankford has only played one game in three weeks and it was a quality loss to a very good Pennsbury team. Look for the Pioneers to make at least a little noise. A week after getting flattened by Wood, Penn Charter went down to Baltimore and beat its 2nd ranked team (McDonogh). Nice bounce-back! Chestnut Hill is creating rumblings very early in its first season back in the Inter-Ac. Will they keep it up? Carroll fell to a desperate North Penn team. The Pats have played a quality non-league schedule and they’ll hope it helps them in their league opener versus three-time champ Wood.

WEEK 9/11/06
(No comments for now)
1. SJ Prep (1-1)
2. LaSalle (2-0)
3. O’Hara (1-1)
4. Wood (2-0)
5. Malvern (1-0)
6. Roman (2-0)
7. George Washington (2-0)
8. Father Judge (1-1)
9. Carroll (1-1)
10. Episcopal (1-0)
Under Consideration:
  Bok, (1-0), Central (1-0), Frankford (0-1), Ryan (0-2), & West Catholic (0-2).
