Randy's Weekly Honors, '10 Return to TedSilary.com Home Page Randy Seidman
is a constant at Washington games and this year is again giving out college
honors to Philly Guys playing college baseball. Very cool! Randy graduated
from Washington, which his two sons also attended. Randy is an award-winning
producer of televised sporting events and now works for the Comcast Network,
in addition to doing free-lance work for many of the major networks. His
career highlight -- producing games, on back-to-back days, when
Julius Erving scored his 30,000th point and
Mike Schmidt slammed his 500th homer. He may be reached at

2010 Hometown Philly All-Star &
All-Rookie Selections
The fifth
annual Hometown Philly awards were once again announced in downtown
Philadelphia during the 4th of July weekend celebration. There were 188 players
on college baseball rosters hailing from three Philly high school leagues:
Catholic, Public and Inter-Academic. These student-athletes represented 87
different colleges and universities.
Special
congratulations go out to all of the honorees and their devoted
families, teammates, coaches, managers, trainers, and especially to the seniors.
Once again, thanks to the daddy of tedsilary.com, the man himself, Ted
Silary, for always touting "our guys." Please e-mail any omissions or
mistakes to rseidman9@aol.com.
SPECIAL
ACHIEVEMENT RECOGNITION
CHRISTIAN
WALKER, South Carolina fr 1B/3B (Kennedy-Kenrick)
He was not the MVP of the 2010 College World Series, but without Christian Walker batting behind him in the four-hole, Jackie Bradley, Jr. would not have seen so many good pitches to hit. Kennedy-Kenrick's Walker and the highly touted Bradley, Jr (soph OF - Prince George, VA) combined to help lead the offense as the Gamecocks won their first-ever College World Series championship. In the best-of-three finals against UCLA, it was the Bruins starting pitchers that the network was in love with. But SC and their followers didn't go all the way out to Nebraska for nothing. Here are some similar numbers in the seven CWS games played: Bradley (MVP): .345 BA (10-29), 2 HR, 9 RBI - Walker: .414 BA (12-29), 2 HR, 5 RBI. A season ago, Christian Walker was selected in the 49th round of the 2009 MLB draft by the LA Dodgers. I think he might be moving up the board after this national showcase.
