Every so often, we'll publish photos of people in
or around the game as a way
of providing recognition. If you see Ted on the trail and think someone's
photo,
even yours, deserves to be posted on www.tedsilary.com,
speak up.

On 1/7, West Catholic's Curtis "Boonah" Brinkley
announced his decision to
attend Syracuse. He is flanked by his father, Curtis, and sister, Niveka
Cason.

The view from the press box at Northeast 12/12 when Wood met West
Catholic for the
CL Blue football title. Wood won, 17-14.

Coach Art Barrett accepts congratulations from AD
Steve Peters.

The celebration is on after Frankford wins the PL title over
Washington, 12-0, on 12/10. That's rain, not snow.

Frankford met North Catholic for the 76th time on 11/27, This
photo was taken about 40 minutes
before gametime.

Receiver Ervin Hook shook off these tacklers and went in for a TD.

These North grads came out of the stands just before the
second half and led everyone in singing the school song.

Joe Waclawski awaits the snap. He passed 22-for-38 for 213 yards.

The Pub's best managers? I wouldn't pick against them. Tarryn
Pietersen (left) and Shannon Garrett run the show for Frankford in
grand fashion.

Neumann's student rooters -- a/k/a The Cove -- were out in force
for the CL Blue
semifinal vs. Wood on 11/21.

YOU CAN NEVER HAVE ENOUGH JOHNSONS . . .
Germantown has SIX. Not one is related to another.
Front, L to R -- Akeem, Jarell and Justin.
Back, L to R -- Christen and Gabriel.
Soon after this picture was taken, a player walked over and said, "Hey, my
name's Johnson, too."
It was Phillip, recently promoted from the JV. He was taking the pads off the goalpost at
picture-taking time.
In a 35-0 win over U. City, Christen caught a TD pass, Akeem ran for two TDs, Gabriel had
an interception, Jarell blocked and Justin recovered a fumble.
The guy in the back? Dennis Hill. The man can't stay away from cameras (smile).

Dressed right for coaching. That's Germantown's Mike
Hawkins (left) and U. City's Lou Williams.

G-town's Marcus Walton has just kicked a PAT. Lord only knows where the ball is.

Cedric Green, shown with his father, Clarence, ended his
career by earning the game ball for his performance in a
12-8 win over Mastbaum.

On 11/15, West Catholic's seniors were introduced with their
parents before 33-12 win over
Conwell-Egan.

West's Curtis "Boonah" Brinkley runs the ball. Notice
the three-high
pile of guys at the right (smile).

Players and cheerleaders join the end-zone pile after Dobbins beat
Mastbaum, 22-21, in OT, in a Pub quarterfinal.

Dobbins' players relax during halftime on side of a hill at Lincoln.

Mastbaum coach John Murphy is surrounded by his sons, Dylan (L) and Jonerik.

On 11/13, Franklin's cheerleaders were bundled up for the cold and
whipping
winds. Note the tree in the upper left corner.

Coach Allen Rushing talks with his team during a timeout. Check
out the
tree. It snapped in two in the first quarter. The cheerleaders picture was
taken before the game.

Malvin Carrion, of Temple's Sports
Medicine Centers, is in his sixth
season of working the Public League.
He's always pleasant and caring
with the injured players. Malvin is
a Mastbaum grad.

Keith McCarthy (back, red jacket) has organized Judge's FB
managers
into a well-oiled machine. His brother, "Manager Mike" (holding the
ball), is a senior.

The Central Lancers savor their Division B title after thumping Germantown, 45-0.

QB Marcel Quarterman has sparked Central's offense to impressive numbers.

On 11/2, O'Hara's seniors wait to present moms with roses in
pre-game ceremony
for Senior Day. QB Matt Campbell is at right.

Steve Cook tackles Evin Jones.

O'Hara coach George Stratts talks with his team after the win.

SJ Prep coach Gil Brooks (right) declines to make eye
contact before the game vs. Judge on 11/1, hoping Thomas
"Hockey Puck/Nutman" McKenna will walk away without
trying to dispense more football knowledge (smile). Prep won,
42-0, to claim the city record for consecutive wins (33). Below,
Brooks addresses the team after the win.

On 11/1, Dobbins' Steve Sydnor made
three interceptions vs. Germantown. He
came close to a fourth early in the fourth
quarter, then went to the sideline with
cramping problems. Here, he downs
some Gatorade. He scored the final
TD on a QB keeper.

Dobbins RB Rashad "Reds" Williams, shown here with
teammate Ariel
Simmons, displays the program from his grandmother's funeral. He keeps it
in a safe place on the bench and often checks it out for inspiration.
"Reds"
ran just six times for 131 yards and three TDs in a 31-8 win over
Germantown.

On 10/31, West Philly's cheerleaders wolf down a quick meal in the
stands at Southern before
starting their duties. West won, 20-16.

On 10/30, King's Jared Williams runs against Franklin.

King's Raheem Isaac is 5-2, 125 pounds, but always gives a
giant-sized effort. He ran five times for 19 yards in the waning
moments of a 33-0 win over Franklin. Behind Raheem are Jeff
Campbell (7) and Dave "Eat at Wendy's" Thomas (8).

On 10/28, I spoke to a journalism class for seniors at SJ Prep.
The teacher,
Andrew Whelan, is at the left end of the back row. Two FB players, David
O'Brien and Bill Gennaro, are in this group. Bill is pretty much dead
center;
a kid in a white shirt had his arm on Bill's left shoulder. David is the
next kid
over toward the left (blue shirt, red tie). Bill asked the most questions.
And
afterward, he mentioned that he'd incorrectly been credited with an
interception on the website. Gotta love that, right? (I'm not sure if other FB
players were in the class.)

Bonner athletic director John Mooney serves as the ballboy
at FB games. He's in his 50th year of teaching in Catholic high
schools and will retire this June. Frank Perri, a teacher at
Neumann, is also is in his 50th school year.

This is how things look from the home sideline at Episcopal.
Notice the motorized
contraption used by assistant coaches, a cameraman and stat man
Dennis Warsavage
(white jacket).

On 10/24, Episcopal QB Brian FitzPatrick can
only watch after suffering an early-game injury
to his left knee. We wish Brian well!

On 10/23, the Franklin guys were abundant when Northeast beat
Lincoln, 10-0. At left is
Paul, nose guard for Northeast. The other three are brothers and Paul's first
cousins --
Bernard (RB-DB-KR), Benjamin (RB-DB-KR; he was still battling an ankle
injury and
barely played) and Joe (a soph, he'll undoubtedly be a factor in the coming
seasons).

On 10/19, Wood had a great student turnout for Homecoming vs.
Conwell-Egan. No. 22
is C-E's star jr. RB, Steve Slaton.

My digital camera is not exactly Quick Draw McGraw. The action in
this play
(incomplete pass) is long over. But the MALVERN on the roof looks cool,
right?

On 10/16, Overbrook coach Ken Sturm consults with
his
assistants before 12-6 loss to Edison. Oh, you don't see his
assistants? No wonder. They weren't there. They don't teach
at 'Brook and the first one didn't arrive until 3 minutes into
the second quarter.

Overbrook's Khalif El-Harre-Bey is
brought down in first quarter.

Barry Wyche (30) and Derrick Ellis (11) are among the happy
Edison
players after the win.

This board with old programs/photos is in Frankford's locker room,
and part of the tradition.
Also in the room is a board with photos/clippings (below).

Frankford coach Tom Mullineaux swears by the 2-man blocking sled.
"Those 7-man sleds
are worthless. You can mistakes and still push it in the right direction. Not the 2-man.
If
somebody's not using the right technique, you know it right away."

On 10/12 vs. Ryan, Anthony Heygood fueled a 62-6 rout with three
TDs. Here he's
fighting off Mike Pinto.

On 10/11, Ted attended games in Mt. Airy and Bristol Twp. and in
between ate dinner at a
beautiful McDonald's along Route 13. Here is how the sky looked when he
emerged from
Mickey D's. Nice, huh?

On 10/11, G-town's Marcus Walton runs vs. Roxborough.

These three Roxborough players lined up in a stacked trips
formation.
The ball was thrown to the guy on the left, Chris Mitchell. He did not
handle the backward pass and G-town's Omar McDonnaugh returned
the fumble 51 yards for a TD.

On 10/10, Penn Charter QB James Hannah gets rid of
pass under pressure vs. Episcopal.

On 10/9, Southern QB Jalil Harris lets loose as Shamir Kase
(30)
and Dan Fields (78) block. Bartram's Jeremy Welzcher is just
arriving. (Huck photo)

Bartram QB Terrance Murray (5) has just handed to George Morse
(21).
Kevin Brownlee (77) leads the way. (Huck photo)
In this one ,Murray is handing to Mustafa Crumpton. Southern's
Harry Walker
(58) is making penetration. (Huck photo)

Coach Gil Brooks (not pictured) calls FB-LB Brian Tracz
(crouching, foreground) "the unquestioned leader" of St.
Joseph's Prep's football team.

On 10/4, Bonner QB Andrew Case calls signals vs. Judge.

Judge's John Lock follows through after a PAT. Dale Curry
is the holder.

Is former Bonner legend Mike "Fat Koz"
Kozak the long-lost son of Daily News stat
whiz Thomas "Hockey Puck/Nutman"
McKenna? Hmmm . . . . .

Marcus Walton runs for Germantown as Omar McDonnaugh
blocks. Bok beat G-town, 22-14, on 10/3.

On 10/3, Germantown's color guard performs at halftime.

Bok's Major twins -- Kenny (left) and Allen.

On 10/2, Olney QB Michael Evans (14) gets ready to receive snap
vs. Overbrook. That's
Olney's clubhouse in the background and the school building looming large across Front
Street.

On 9/25, these five linemen helped Bryan Savage become the leading
career passer in
Inter-Ac history. L to R -- T Will Barker, G Stokes Carrigan, C Eric Pender, G Gabe
Tribuiani, T Rob Casullo.

Haverford School's team includes the Cesarine triplets. John,
center (nursing an ankle injury), is the oldest. He plays WR-DB.
Terry, right, came along two minutes later. He plays FB-LB.
Joe, left, came along two minutes after that. He plays TE-DE.
The guys are sophs.

Joe Cassidy is likely Carroll's biggest fan. He's
a grad and catches as many games as he can,
even though he now lives in Jersey and is the
basketball coach at Rowan University. His
son, Tyler, age 9, plays youth football and
last year participated in a SIX-overtime
playoff game. He was studying DB play.

As his twin brother, Allen, carries out his fake (right), Kenny
Major
(9) runs for Bok as Rasheed Fleming looks for someone to block.
Gratz won, 12-6, on 9/25/03.

TOMMY AND TROMMY
Tom DeFelice (L) is Bok's head coach. Vince
Trombetta, ex-Ben Franklin coach, helps to
coach the defense. The great friends formerly
lived two doors apart in SW Phila.

Roman's Charron Fisher is a D-I recruit
in FB and basketball. He plays TE-WR
and OLB. Here he heads downfield for a
pass in Roman's 28-7 win over La Salle
on 9/21/03.
On 9/20/03, Steve Slaton became the leading rusher in
Egan/Conwell-Egan
history with 253 yards vs. Neumann. He lifted his career total to 2,979,
breaking 2,828 by 1981 grad Tom Seger. Here are three pics . . .

Steve takes a well-earned break on a very hot day.

Steve poses with Tom Seger, the
former recordholder. Tom played at
Lehigh, later coached the freshman
team at Egan and now lives in
Langhorne.

Steve and his family: mom Juanita Tiggett-Slaton, father Carl
Slaton and brother Charles Tiggett.

Buddy Brooks (7), son of coach Gil Brooks, is chief ballboy for SJ
Prep.
He and his assistants, joined by Ted's son, Kevin (right), and buddy
Neil MacGregor (gray shirt), played some tackle before the Hawks'
39-8 win over Holy Cross on 9/13.

The Prep's student rooters.

These Gtn. Academy students had a barbecue in the parking lot at
P-W before a 27-12 victory
over La Salle.

Haverford School's Bryan Savage prepares to throw in
pre-game drill 9/12.

Savage awaits instructions from coach Rob Allman
during late timeout in first half.
