RECAP OF CHAMPIONSHIP GAME
#2 OJ Mayo (7-1) defeated #8 Dime Magazine (4-4),
99-78, for the 2008 chosen league
championship.
-OJ Mayo is perhaps the greatest collection of talent (7 d1 scholarship
players, surpassing '04 Mitchell & Ness and '03 Kingpin with 4 apiece) on 1 team
in The Chosen League's 7-year history.
-The game was close until the 14-minute mark in the 1st half with the score
16-12 & Dime Magazine (also set a 1st in chosen league history by defeating
the 1 seed in the quarterfinals) and the lead; fueled by Ferg Myrick (28 pts, 13
reb) and his aggressive drives to the hoop.
-Then OJ Mayo went to a full court press, spearheaded by Maalik "Nova" Wayns (18
pts
6 ast 4 stls) & Lamar "Sa-Sa" Trice (7 pts 7 ast 2 stls). Their defensive ball
pressure on
the Dime Mag guards led to turnovers and crowd-pleasing finishes by
Devon "Big Show" White (24 pts 13 reb 4 blks) with thunderous dunks. The score
at
half was 57-22.
-The first 3 minutes of the 2nd half sealed the game when OJ Mayo went on a 12-0
run with the crowd enjoying the dribble penetration and nifty passes of
Wayns, leading to 2 three pointers from Miguel 'Her-Her-Hernandez" Bocachica
(9 pts) and Eddie "Easy" Frazier's (18 pts) acrobatic, left-hand finishes at the
hoop.
-The rest of the game was a showcase of OJ Mayo's talent for the crowd, who
enjoyed
the show and reacted to every sharp move. The OJ Mayo team truly lived up to
being the most talented team in the Chosen League.
