Philadelphia High School Basketball

A Look at Penn Charter's 33-Game Inter-Ac
League Winning Streaks, 1940-44 / 1962-65

A total of eight championships were won by the players that put together
these two streaks -- 1940, '41, '42, '43 and '44, coached by Duke Taylor,
and '62, '63 and '64, coached by Buff Weigand. The 12-0 record in '64
remains the best in school history.

Above is the 1943-44 championship team. Holding the ball is captain George Hauptfuhrer, the Inter-Ac League's top player in
'43 and '44 and future NBA draftee . . . At right is center Bill Soens, who in 1963 set the still-standing record for points in an Inter-Ac League game with 63 vs. Germantown Academy.
