SEMIFINALS
Doubleheader at Germantown
Del-Val 14, Prep Charter 8: Rasheed Cade’s twin brother, Rashan, was lost early to a separated shoulder, but Rasheed represented the family in spectacular fashion thanks to receptions for a TD and conversion, two interceptions and two late breakups to prevent TDs. A bad snap on a punt enabled PC to have a last chance from DV’s 14 with 1 second left. Cade and Rashan’s QB replacement, Nate Barnes, combined to knock down the pass in the left corner. There were more interceptions (six) than completions (four). Rushers Anthony Wyche (18-115) and Jovan Matthews (19-92, TD) led PC.
Imhotep 41, Comm Tech 8: The Phoenix managed to claim an 8-6 lead, but thoughts of an upset quickly vamoosed. David Williams ran 11 times for 172 yards and three TDs, including a 99-yarder, and Brandon Chatmon, one of three defenders right in QB Zaki Jamison’s face, earned six points when he intercepted a desperation flip at the very back of the end zone; the play began at the 4. Rusher Diquan Gilbert (24-133, TD) paced CT.

Imhotep 48, Del-Val 0: David Williams (17-95) and Eerin Young (7-78) ran for two scores apiece while DeAndre Scott used two methods to score twice (rush, interception return). D-V's Nate Barnes managed 37 yards on 13 carries.

SEMIFINALS
Doubleheader at Gratz
Bok 12, Boys' Latin 6: Vittorio "Vito" Goggins numbered six solos among 10 tackles, batted down two passes and recovered a fumble for the decisive TD. Larry Pelzer workhorsed his way to 147 yards and one score on 29 carries while adding a pick. Marquez Walker recovered two fumbles. For BL, Eric Lark passed 13-for-31 for 161 yards (career total: 3,089) and ran for the TD.
Gratz 36, Mastery North 12: Nydair Rouse scored one TD in normal fashion -- 40-yard pass from Davone Cornish -- and scored two others on interception returns of 47 and 84 yards, enabling the still-perfect Bulldogs to claim a 10th win for the first time in the program's 84-year history. Rouse became the third player in city history to post two pick-sixes in the same postseason contest. MN's James Johnson passed 11-for-28 for 145 yards and a score to Jermaine Norris. Rondell Bazley had an interception.

Bok 28, Gratz 22: Going without three of its top players, including star rusher Larry Pelzer (school suspensions), the Wildcats captured their fifth consecutive championship; others in AA Division. Star wideout Antoine Whitney moved to running back, carrying 29 times for 132 yards and one TD. He also scored on a 41-yard toss from Michael Riley (two rushing TDs) and intercepted a pass. Vittorio "Vito" Goggins added 111 yards on eight rushes. For Gratz, which entered with a record as gaudy as 10-0 for the time in the program's 84-year history, Davone Cornish passed 8-for-21 for 235 yards and one score apiece to Daqwan Freeman and Cornelius Middleton.

AAAA DIVISION
FIRST ROUND
Central 44, Lincoln 0: Walter Pegues scored three TDs in as many manners – punt return, rush, 88-yard kickoff return – as the host Lancers coasted. This one was played Saturday morning at Central after Lincoln’s bus failed to show Friday afternoon.
Northeast 44, Furness 0: Devon Dillard tallied early TDs on a 55-yard punt return and 36-yard pass from Daquan Bohannan while Rushawn Grange (7-77) added two rushing scores. Shahir Gates, who skipped football as a junior while spending two months in Florida at a baseball academy, numbered six solos among 12 tackles.

Doubleheader at Northeast
Frankford 35, Northeast 15: Quinton Ellis turned 17 carries into 172 yards and three TDs while Tim DiGiorgio (6-for-12, 114) threw for one score apiece to Denzel Turbeville and Renz Compton. Christian Santiago posted two of the Pioneers' four interceptions. For Northeast, Devon Dillard returned one of his two picks for a score.
Washington 28, Central 0: The Eagles seized command by rolling to three TDs in the first quarter. Joshua "Texas" Macauley set up No. 1 with a 51-yard catch, down to the 4, on the game's first play and scored the third on a 46-yard fling from Dave Gavrilov
(11-for-14, 187; two TDs). A dominant defensive line sentenced the Lancers to losses on 16 (for 78 yards) of their 41 rushing plays. Walter Pegues managed 94 return yards.

Frankford 30, Washington 16: Marquise Poston notched a TD on a 12-yard, midair fumble return (ball dislodged by Kadar Jones) as the Pioneers rolled to a 23-0 lead. Then, with Washington down by just seven points midway through the fourth quarter, he needed to make two more big plays. First he used a late dive to down a punt on the 1. Three plays later he intercepted a pass on the 10. Though Poston fumbled after being hit by the intended receiver, Rene Villafane, the ball was scooped up on the 5 by Anthony Wright-Downing, who trotted into the end zone for the clinching TD. With coach Will Doggett in his native Louisiana due to a family emergency, the Pioneers were guided by chief assistant Juan Namnun. With the players gathered 'round, Namnun called Doggett on his cell phone and yelled that a championship had been won, inducing everyone to roar with glee. Tim DiGiorgio passed 6-for-14 for 114 yards and a TD to Brandon Jack while Damion Samuels raced 64 yards for a score. For Washington, Dave Gavrilov passed 13-for-29 for 172 yards and two TDs to Shaquon Allen, but was victimized for four picks (two by Christian Santiago).

At Germantown
Imhotep 40, West Catholic 8: David Williams, a transfer from WC, rushed 22 times for 191 yards and two TDs as the Panthers, coached by former WC assistant Albie Crosby, became the second Pub victor (also Washington '08) in 5 years of classification City Titles. Andre Dreuitt passed for a score to Denniston "DJ" Moore and burrowed 1 yard for another. G-DT Tyrone Barge, the only two-way starter, returned a fumble 60 yards for the final TD. Greg White ran for West's score. The loss was the Burrs' worst since the final game of the 2001 season (47-0 to Penn Wood).

At Northeast
Wood 49, Bok 28: Before sitting down early in the third quarter, Josh Messina rang up 14 tackles (eight solos, four for losses) forced a fumble and picked off a pass as the Vikings captured their fifth consecutive CT. He also ran for a TD. Jarrett McClenton zoomed to 217 yards on three consecutive touches, thanks for runs of 69 and 56 yards (TD) and a 92-yard kickoff return for another score. Bok’s Antoine Whitney generated 329 all-purpose yards – 13-87 rushing, 6-138 receiving, 6-87 kickoff returns, 1-17 interception return – and tallied two TDs.
CLASS AAAA
At Northeast
La Salle 37, Frankford 20: Soph Jordan Meachum, limited or sidelined all season by a recurring hip injury, turned seven carries into 146 yards and one TD. Also, his long runs set up a field goal and six-pointer. The Explorers’ longest score went to soph Jimmy Herron on a pass from Chris Kane. Dad Poquie and Sean Coleman posted interceptions to help La Salle capture its fourth consecutive CT. In the second half, played with a running clock, Frankford’s Tim DiGiorgio passed for 170 of his 250 yards while enjoying streaks of five and four consecutive completions. Rene Herrera (62-yard reception) bagged the longest TD.
